Daniel put together the bones for this son, Dick put on the flesh and Mark gave it a spirit with finishing touches in the lyrics.
originally we would have called this Big Sur, or something with Brendan in it, but after the news of Bowie's passing, a subject for this song of the sea presented itself.
David Bowie, out of fear or flying, did many travels between continents on ships. The Oronsay was already an older Cruise ship when Bowie took it from Los Angeles to japan in march/ april 1973 to continue his Ziggy Stardust tour.
In our song we imagine him on board, out of love for sailing more than fear of flying.
lyrics
Was it love of sailing,
Or fear of flying?
You took this ship.
The man who fell,
to Earth
Oronsay,
Oronsay,
To the rise and fall.
Was it Stardust?
Quicksand from which,
Dreams are woven,
Or fear of losing,
Your wits.
The man who sold,
the World
Was it a way,
In your eyes
Or in the papers?
Oronsay,
On the Oronsay,
To the rise and fall.
Did you dine,
At the Captain's Table?
Cross the pacific,
And follow the sun,
Come back again,
To where you begun.
Reborn as a Black Star.
Oronsay,
On the Oronsay,
To the rise and fall.
